When it comes to launching your podcast and getting everything ready, there’s no shortage of tips you can find online. That being said, many consider launching their podcast the “easy” part. The real challenge often lies when the time to scale your podcast comes.
So how do you go about it? There’s a simple formula you can follow to dramatically scale your business. Simply put, you just need to focus on two key aspects: consistently providing exceptional and valuable content and growing your listener base. In this article, you’ll find proven hacks to achieve both objectives.
Growth Hack #1: Identify your niche and determine your avatar
Knowing the exact people you are targeting (your avatar) and accurately identifying your niche are two of the most important components of your foundation. If you launch your podcast without a crystal clear idea of the people you want to speak to, growing your podcast can become very challenging.
The importance of knowing who your target audience is cannot be overstated. Sans said knowledge, you won’t be able to provide valuable content. Tackle this important aspect first and foremost and take it from there. Oftentimes, the rest should come easy.
Growth Hack #2: Find ways to make your podcast stand out
Whether it’s in the way you start (or end) your podcast, or the way you format it, or the frequency that it’s dished out, make sure you have something that makes it stand out from the rest.
This aspect is going to require a bit of research but once you figure out what you can offer that’s different, it will be worth it. Come to think of it, if you’re doing what every other podcast in your niche is doing, you’ll never be able to differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack.
Once you’ve identified your niche and avatar, the next thing you have to look for is your unique value distinguisher (UVD). Your UVD will not only help you be a step ahead of everyone else, it will also help you build a robust and loyal following.
If you haven’t figured out your UVD yet, make sure you set aside sufficient time to brainstorm. Get your brainstorming session off to a great start by asking yourself the following key questions:
- What makes me different from the other podcasters in the same niche?
- How can I present my content in a way that’s unique and creative?
Growth Hack#3: Find effective ways to connect with your listeners
Connecting with your audience can help your podcast grow dramatically given that it’s done right. Start with a great call to action and entice your target audience to connect with you by:
- Reaching out via email
- Filling out a form on your site that will capture their email addresses
- Scheduling a one-on-one with you
- You can also connect and increase audience engagement by asking questions. For instance:
- What’s your favourite thing about the podcast?
- Who are the guests they’d like to have on the show?
- What are some ways you can improve your show?
Take note of the answers and identify common themes. The common themes you can find can be awesome starting points to help you improve and eventually grow your podcast.
