Talk To Us

Nowadays, more and more businesses are integrating podcasts in their content marketing strategy and it’s easy to see why. For starters, they are undoubtedly less expensive compared to videos. Podcasts can also reach more people as they can be listened to even while doing something or while mobile.

At the recent 2016 FINCON, Nick Loper, a Best Business Podcast finalist shared how he was able to get more mileage for his podcast Side Hustle Nation.

Regardless if you are still starting out or have been podcasting for quite sometime, the following tips can help your podcast reach greater heights:

Podcasting Tip #1: Start with a Livestream Video

Nick Loper was quick to admit not using videos was one of the biggest mistakes he committed when he was still starting out.

You see, when you use videos, it allows you to tap into the three pillars of online content: video, audio, and text. Using a live stream video also gives listeners an insight into what goes on behind the scenes while you record your episodes.

Also, starting a live stream video on platforms like Periscope, Facebook Live, and Google Hangouts can also dramatically help increase engagement as listeners have the option to ask questions and give comments on a real-time basis.

In addition, you can also record your live stream videos and use them in upcoming episodes. You also have the option to upload them in your YouTube channel.

Podcasting Tip #2: Upload Your Video on YouTube

Nick referred to YouTube as a “low hanging fruit.” Aside from the fact that you can use it for free, it also has the virality other platforms like iTunes and Google PlayStore just can’t match.

Simply put, YouTube’s algorithm takes into account any attention (likes, comments, etc.) your video gets. This increases the probability of your video being included in the list of suggested videos.

YouTube is also a good way to repurpose old podcast episodes you have already uploaded. Nick also suggested creating an attractive image to go with the mp3 version of your podcast. You can use TunesToTube for this.

Podcasting Tip #3: Convert Your Podcast Episode into a Lead Magnet

If you manage a blog, you probably already know that one of its most important components is the lead magnet. This is an attractive offer that you give out to your blog’s visitors in exchange for their name and email address. Your primary purpose is to grow your email list. It also makes it very easy for you to inform people on your list about upcoming podcast episodes they should look out for.

Nick suggested creating downloadable show notes you can use as lead magnets. Usually it is in the form of a PDF file and will contain all the important topics that were discussed during a specific episode. They can use the file as reference once they provide their names and email addresses.

Podcast Tip #4: Take Advantage of Facebook Groups

Aside from using Facebook Groups to promote your past and upcoming podcasts, you can also use it to connect with other podcasters and influencers in your niche. When you are able to build a good relationship with them, they might even agree to appear as a guests on your show.

The key to using Facebook Groups is to remember that you need to establish a connection with the other members first and foremost. Merely posting links to your episodes without even contributing something beneficial can get you either kicked or banned.

Podcasting Tip #5: Online Courses

If you have an episode that garnered a significant amount of positive reviews, you can convert it into a course. Depending on what you think is best, you can either give it away for free or sell it.

Nick has done this strategy a couple of times already. After getting a lot of positive reviews on his podcast episodes on the use of Kindle, he converted the episodes into a course which he uploaded at Udemy. Currently, there are over 3,000 students taking the course, each paying $195 just to enroll. That’s massive ROI any way you look at it!
