Nowadays, modern technology and various social media platforms can help create instant celebrities out of ordinary people. Given you have something unique, fresh, and extraordinary to share, it’s easy for you to become the next big thing.

The same is true as far as podcasting goes but with a little twist. Once you get past your 5 seconds of fame, you need to be able to sustain it. In other words, it’s a continuous process of finding out how to capture the fancy of your listeners and making your mark in the industry.

The Podcast Dilemma

Hosting your own show can be challenging. Even if you have the gift of gab, you won’t survive on it alone. You also need to deliver fresh, interesting, and relevant material if you want to entice new followers and keep the old ones. And it’s just the tip of the iceberg. When starting out, you also need to decide on one key aspect–should you host the show solo or are you better off working with a partner?

Which Is Better? Going Solo or Working With a Partner?

Akin to most things, going the solo route has its own set of pros and cons. One clear advantage of going solo however is having complete control over the entire show—the topics you’ll tackle, the approach you will use, the guests you want to invite over, etc. There’s also zero bickering and distractions. In addition, you don’t have to make sure you and your partner are on the same page. Doing it on your own can also make it relatively easy for you to have your signature lines and style since you don’t have to take into account what your co-host wants. Basically, you have total and complete freedom to steer the boat any direction you choose.

One-Man Show

Of course, going solo has its disadvantages as well. For starters, it can be time-consuming and exhausting covering all the bases on your own. You’ll have no one to consult or exchange ideas and concepts with. You take care of everything and you’ll have to decide everything on your own.

Partner’s Delight

Just like the solo route, having a co-host has its own set of perks and downsides. While you don’t get to control everything, having a partner is actually not as disadvantageous as often perceived.

Aside from having someone to cover for you if you have emergencies and important things to take care of, it can be awesome having someone you can exchange ideas with. A partner can also come in handy in cases when you run out of things to say.

So What’s the Catch?

Obviously, if you have a co-host, you can’t expect you’ll agree on everything. And since you don’t have complete control over everything, you would need to take into account their suggestions and ideas and find something you’re both comfortable and happy with.

Deciding to go solo or have a partner can be difficult. However, you can make the process less stressful by figuring out what’s really important to you and weighing all the pros and cons each option has to offer.
